A Cause for Paws
On Mandela Day, 14 July 2018, FLANCE spent a heartfelt afteroon with the people and animals of HAWK rescue shelter. Nestled in the townships near Atlantis, HAWK cares for between 250 and 300 dogs at any time, on a farm run by Andre Verbiest.
Looking after almost 300 rescue dogs is no mean feat; the organisation relies entirely on donations from the public and volunteers. The centre’s main objective is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abused or neglected animals, paying special attention to the well-being and happiness of the animals. Andre does not believe in ever turning a dog away; he believes special attention and rehabilitation is always in the dog’s best interest.
Andre and the HAWK team work closely with the surrounding townships to educate the local community about how to treat animals, and to foster animal behavioural awareness.
While HAWK is a well-known organisation, they do not have the financial or material resources to sustain their efforts. To put their needs into perspective, HAWK uses about 100kg of dog food per week, but they only receive donations of about 60kg per week.
Our Work for HAWK
FLANCE is contributing our digital, social, and design insights and strategy to build a custom website for HAWK, which will provide information to the public about donations and adoptions. We are refreshing the organisation’s brand identity by redesigning their logo and marketing material.
With the variety of digital marketing tools at our disposal, we’re looking forward to making a significant difference in the lives of these animals. We hope to bring this shelter into the digital age and assist in connecting more animals with happy homes.
